A graduate of the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing, Oxford and St. Martin’s School of Art, London, Charlotte Knox has worked since the 1975 as a full-time freelance illustrator and painter. With an established reputation for detailed and luscious rendering of natural objects and an emphasis on strong colors and striking, simple design, she has mainly specialized in fruit, vegetables and seafood for books, magazines, packaging and postage stamps.

Her commissions have included Royal Mail Stamps, a Transport for London poster, a wide range of books including Fruit: A Connoisseur’s Guide and Cookbook by Alan Davidson (First Prize, W.H. Smith Illustration Award 1991) and numerous packaging projects, including a large range of labels for preserves, salsas and relishes for American Spoon and a series of illustrations of commodities for the Wall Street Journal.

Between 2003 and 2012 Charlotte lived in the USA where she studied and won a scholarship at the Art Student’s League of New York. She started working on large-scale watercolours of cityscapes and landscapes from around the world and her work was acquired by the League for its permanent collection.

Since her return to London Charlotte has been working on both illustration commissions and her own painting projects. Her watercolours have been regularly selected for exhibition. In both 2013 and 2014 she received prizes at the Royal Watercolour Society’s Contemporary Watercolour Competitions and her work has also been exhibited at the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour Annual Exhibition and the Painter-Stainer Prize Exhibition.

Charlotte is a member of the Art Workers Guild.
